about

Returning after the two album detour is another slew of Free Music Duets releases by Quetzal Tirado, once again collaborating with a new face, a young but immensely gifted composer and multi-instrumentalist, Nika Ticciati. Nika's past lies in writing and performing melodically complex rock music, generally within the framework of progressive and math rock, inspired by bands such as Emerson, Lake and Palmer or King Crimson. The music on their shared record amps up the improvisatory qualities of such music and places it in more tightly knit compositions as jumping pads to careen off of deep into the void of free music. They go so far as to cover a Sharrock song that was itself inspired by a minimalistic approach to raga and blues and set improvisation and drone as a cornerstone of their own take on it. The record is very different from all previous releases in that it prominently features overdubs for a more full sound than the generally minimal duo setting, as well as more concise compositions in order not to let the album flow meanderingly. We sincerely hope you enjoy this and the new row of FMD releases to come.
The performances were recorded from August of 2021 to March of 2022 and mixed / mastered as they were completed, by Ticciati.

"There's a cute story about me meeting Nika and us making friends, but I don't think it fits the album all that much, so I'll say this instead: she constantly inspires me. She's a forward-thinking and really clever composer who has the skills to perform all the things she composes and really creative improvisation ideas to boot. Working with her is a little daunting, I feel outmatched somewhat, but perhaps that was what drove me to try my hardest in all of these songs."
