about

Started during Quetzal's brief visit to Britain, Becoming-Animal is a three-piece blackened noise rock band comprising of Quetzal on vocals and reeds, Nika on guitar and briefly, drums, and Teruki on drums and briefly, guitar. The three had endeavored to create a metal project, which through their experiences in jazz improvisation and heavy, noisy music performance combined, ended up morphing into an oddity on the noisier side of experimental rock. Ripe with learned improvisation, immense distorted and metallic guitar lines, pounding and driving drum beats, overblown reeds and scathing lyricism on the political state of the world as well as the mental state of the average working person, Miracles and Anomalies is a testament to the fury and angst present within the up-and-coming generations of experimental musicians, shown on canvas, as pure sonic anguish and assault, balanced only by 3 brief and easy interludes of the band performing as different sets of duos.
The album's cover was slaved over by Dot Homler, who aside from being an immensely talented painter, plays music in such projects as Thøtcrime or Cishet on Radar.

"A fucking menace. That's what this record is. Ugly, jagged, abrasive music. And that's how we wanted it. It's messy, janky, disjointed and wild, but it's still in one piece. And to drive it home, what it wants to tell you is: fuck the fascists. Fuck the limp-dicked liberals. Trans rights forever. The wheel needs to be broken before it breaks us. And last but not least, a reference: no great men, only the great many."
