As the third entry into the Free Music Duets series, Cloud Pyramid is Quetzal Tirado's collaboration with American percussionist Xander Dake in the traditional drums and reed free jazz format, with an added feature from Avalina Wlach. The album features improvised performances highlighting the visceral nature of Tirado's reed playing and the breakneck tempo set by Dake's drumming, with some references thrown in to the 60s free jazz scene of America, the Milford Graves percussion ensemble, the free improvisation band AMM and the experimental rock trio Zs. The performances were recorded from January of 2021 to May and made with the idea of showcasing the talents and ideas of both performers.

"I've always wanted to make a record like Duo Exchange or Interstellar Space, just drums and reeds. There's something very powerful about the minimal band and the interactions between the instruments. Adding extra ideas courtesy of Ava or the insane amounts of records Xander and I have heard just makes it more special, I think."
